Rebecca Remme is a multi-disciplinary Canadian artist whose career has evolved from a focus on personal expression to creating for the community. She began by showing and selling large-scale acrylic paintings in her 20s. Working as a web and graphic designer in Toronto led to a fusion of technology and traditionally created art. Curiosity to learn and experiment art making techniques beyond painting led to studies and work in encaustic wax, egg tempera, print-making, metal smithing, photography, collage, photo transfer, etc. Her work has been featured in group and solo shows, juried art fairs, and has been commissioned for both public and private spaces, earning several awards.
After moving to Burlington, Ontario, Rebecca pursued a third career, graduating from Mohawk College in 2019 with a degree in Architectural Technology. This new pursuit expanded her focus beyond self-expression to encompass the design of living and working spaces for the benefit of others. Volunteering and teaching art to children has become another way to connect and share a passion for creativity. In recent years, Rebecca has found joy in collaborating and creating community-focused commissions awarded by municipalities across Ontario.
At the age of 15, Rebecca created a portrait of George Bernard Shaw, inspired by his quote: “I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the whole community and as long as I live, it is my privilege to do for it what I can.” This is a guiding aspiration for her.
